A Superintendent’s Guide to Succession Planning

This eBook is divided into four sections, guiding succession planning to develop leaders to continue your success.

By David Marshall • March 15, 2024

Leadership Short Cycles to Achieve Annual Goals

During her tenure as superintendent, Dr. Pat Greco took the School District of Menomonee Falls on a continuous improvement journey that captured the attention of the Carnegie Foundation. Just a few years after their first site visit to her schools, the district became a role model for districts across the nation in process improvement and employee engagement.

Her role was integral in this success, and she was to continued improvement for the district beyond her retirement. This meant she had to have a good succession plan in place. If data shows insufficient progress toward the goal, leaders have a dedicated opportunity to problem-solve during weekly and monthly leadership huddles.

“If we wait for critical team members to leave the organization before we begin planning for a quality successor, it’s often too late.”

Dr. Pat Greco (Senior Director of Thought Leadership, Studer Education)
